Dear Colleagues:
The Ultra 5 on my Mercury has begun to lock up after 3 -4 hours of
operation. Initially, I believed it was due to a memory error, since
the /var/adm/messages file had an entry mentioning a kernel panic
May 24 13:34:44 psc300 unix: CPU0 Multiple UE Errors: AFSR 0x00000001.00300000 AFAR 0x00000000.13ef92d0 UDBH MemMod DIMM3
I replaced the memory, but the system still locks up (i.e., there is no response to keyboard/mouse input nor can I login remotely). In doing a POST diagnostic check (i.e. booting to the ok prompt, setting diag-switch? true, diag-level max, and power cycling) I found no hardware problems BUT after finishing the POST hardware checks instead of booting up from the hard drive, the system tries to network boot. This suggests that the hard drive is now bad. Is there any SUN utilities that will perform the equivalent of Windoze diskscan (i.e. look for bad sectors)? Has anyone had this set of problems before?
Thanks for your input,
Bill
