Hi Jon and John,
Thanks for the suggestion - you’re right on the mark with the power
supply! We ran a rotor with a water insert and observed spikes at ±120,
240, 360, etc. Hz from the water peak. All our previous solids test samples
weren’t sharp/intense enough to produce observable spikes.
The 150-160 kHz frequency wave I originally measured in the WOBB curve was
misleading. When I doubled the number of wobble steps, the ‘frequency’
of the wave doubled as well.
Our console AC is from a UPS that also feeds two other spectrometers (with
no issues), so my first suspect are the AQS/2 power supplies, which are rather
old at this point.
Best regards,
Sameer

Hi Sameer,
I think Jon is on the right path....if this instrument has a switching power
supply, the ripple won't be 60Hz however...it will be in the vicinity of
140-180KHz depending on the load and design of the tank...do you have the
wherewithal to check the AC noise ripple on this instrument?
