Hello - this is likely a long shot but I am curious if anyone knows
if its possible to run TopShim 2.4.0 within TS4.1.4? We have two Neo systems here
running TS4.1.4 (Windows) which comes bundled with TopShim 2.2.0. I have heard
that the most recent version of TopShim (2.4.0) is more robust than 2.2.0. I
have also heard cautionary tales about doing a complete migration to TS4.3 from 4.1.
So what about using the latest version of TopShim within a slightly older version of TopSpin?
You can do a test installation and keep the older ones, too. So you have the
chance to fall back to TS 4.1.4! I am using the Linux editions - but with Windows
you can also select a new directory for your new installation.
One tipp - use the option for ‚nmr_save‘ and ‚nmr_user_save‘
before the installation.
This keeps your personal setup of the TopSpin clean and clear. For safety reasons only!
Then you can run the whole process of the installation.
Then there are some new and fresh updates for the firmware, also the new OS in the
AV NEO is updated, too. Then you can move to the new TopSpin edition.
I got some troubles with TS 4.3 - so I was falling back to 4.2.
This takes a longer time of the start of TopSpin. There are now mechanisms installed,
to get really back and to keep the TopSpin and the SpectrOS in the console linked
correctly together.
You can try to ‚steal‘ the newer TopShim edition and
try to install this one in an older version TopSpin - I think, this is not a good idea. T
he TopShim uses a lot of features of the firmware directly - but if these firmware are
in consistent to each other, … I don‘t know, if this is working fine and correctly.
Keep the older files in a backup - so you can put the backup version back!
Earlier today, after doing a backup, I took a
gamble and dumped the /prog/mod/topshim.exe executable from a TS4.3 datastation
onto our spectrometer. I then tried to shim our TCI Prodigy using "topshim initial"
but eventually got an error message involving RECSEL.
May be there are troubles with the hardware and firmware. …
if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions about what Im trying to accomplish here,
please let me know.
My first try is - install
the datastation version first, to get the new feeling with the new features and so on.
If you like it and you tested it enough - then you can do the upgrade and test it once more again.
If not - fall back on the previous version.
