On our Varian systems I just lift out the upper barrel. It takes a only a
moment to undo the two thumbscrews at the top and the air & tachometer
connectors.

Now that we have forever abandoned spinning samples on all of our
spectrometers I suppose that the tachometer and rotation/bearing air lines
could be left disconnected, leaving only the eject air to re-connect.
