I never see my own posts to this list, so I don't know when they've
gone out. Is that common to everyone?
I think I've got two problems with my 500's PFG. The probe had to be
repaired because the gradient coil went open circuit. It's back now
and I get near zero resistance for that coil.
However, I have the style where the XLR gradient connector is located
on the top of the upper bore tube and there are two pins in the top
of the probe that plug into the bottom of the bore tube assy. I seem
to have an open circuit from the top connector to the bottom of the
bore tube assy. The following may explain that:
I have been using a paper clip to simulate the probe by shorting it
across the XLR connector. With pfgon='nny', the reset switch on the
gradient amp is pushed and the red "not OK" LED on the PFG controller
illuminates. Simultaneously, the paper clip "gradient coil" heats up
and the amp LED shows "error".
Could an electrical discontinuity have occurred in the bore tube
because of this? If so, is it easily repaired?
Also, is it my PFG controller that's gone bad (my guess) or could it
be the amp itself?
Your experiences and knowledge are urgently sought.
