To take out the fan tray you need to remove (I think) 6 screws from the sides of the AQS rack. They’re not tiny screws, and they’re on the upper part of the rack, on the sides And there might be one screw in the middle of the AQS rack holding it down. I forget if that screw is on the AQS or BSMS. These should be Phillips head, pan-head screws. You have to take the AQS rack out of the console to get to them, but you don’t have to take out any of the boards to swap the fans.

If the UPS batteries are good then it should be working properly. If the batteries have failed and the UPS is in bypass mode then you’d see the same effects with or without it. If you’ve got a couple of minutes it still would be good to check the voltage coming into the console. If you don’t want to power off the console you could use any of the extra power cables inside the console, or there might be extra sockets on the back of the AQS or BSMS rack. You should be able to measure the 208V (or whatever it turns out to be) there without turning the console power off. If you need to keep the console turned on for some reason.

Those spikes are pretty weird. It’s a little suspicious that you get a GCU error and then when you kill the acquisition they calm down. It might be worth disconnecting the gradient cable from the probe the next time you see them to see if it’s something strange happening with the gradient amplifier/system/something. If you’re getting RCU and GCU errors, it also might be worth considering the CCU—that’s the brains of the AQS rack and if it’s losing its mind then it could cause issues for multiple boards downstream.

Based on the acquisition errors you’re seeing I don’t think it’s anything in the BSMS. Right now I think the lock issues are a symptom and not the cause of the problem.

Cheers,
Mike
