Re: Solaris remote printing (Solved?)

Dohhh... (Insert picture of Homer Simpson here)

Rich Shoemaker wisely pointed out that I should check inetd.conf to make
sure that the printer (lpd) line was not commented out. Well, it wasn't commented
out, it wasn't even there! I know that I did not remove the line, and I certainly
could not have
done in by accident on two systems. I would never remove a line from inetd.conf
anyway, I would just comment it out. Since remote printing worked before, the line
must
have been there in the base Solaris 9 OS. The only thing that I can think of, is
that the
April 8 patch bundle must have removed it, as bizarre as that sounds. The weird
thing is,
even though remote printing is now O.K., "lpstat -t" for users other than root still
gives
the error:

server inova600.chem.umanitoba.ca not responding

Rolf Kyburz (Varian) also pointed out that "Shared" in the /vnmr/devicenames file
must be set to "No" for the printer entries - for obscure historical reasons. As
someone
once pointed out: "God could not have made the world in 6 days if he had an
installed
base".

Thanks for the help!
