Re: [AMMRL] Bruker SampleCase Reliability #Bruker

Similar issue here. The shutters of the cover were occasionally sticking which
slowed down the process of moving between the concentric rings just enough for
the system to time-out every once in a while. The problem was sporadic enough
that it was tough to nail down. We eventually setup an old computer to continuously
video record the carousel so that we could try to capture what was different about
the times the system failed.

Bruker ended up cleaning off the shutters and also loosened up the clips holding
the shutters in place. The clips may have been crimped down a little
too tightly thus creating excess drag between the shutters.

Good luck!

Dear Victoria,

We had a similar issue in our SampleCase 60, several times it got jammed while
moving between concentric.

Finally the support technician from Bruker discovered that the cause was the cover.
It is made by two metallic layers which slid between them when moving between
concentric position rings. Between these metallic layers there is a polymer that
had degraded and became sticky, causing the system to get stuck from time to time.

We could have had the cover replaced by a new one, but we chose just to remove it
and it has been working wonderfully since then.

Hope that helps. Best wishes,

Gabriel

[Edited Message Follows]
[Reason: edited to correct the number of slots]

All,

I'm wondering if anyone can make any comments about the reliability of the
Bruker SampleCase with 24 slots vs 60 slots. We have both configurations in
our lab and the 60 slot model is having problems with jamming as it moves
between the concentric circles. The 24 slot model only has one ring and
does not encounter this problem. I'm wondering if the jamming issues I'm
seeing in the 60 slot model are just sort of an inherent 'feature' of the
increased alignment requirements generated by the concentric ring design or
if I've just had bad luck with the 60 slot model and other people are finding
them generally reliable.

Thanks,
Victoria Begue
