George,
I once considered using an Octane, but decided against it when (1) we
inheirited an O2 that someone in Engineering didn't use anymore and (2)
Bruker wouldn't say if it would work or not (apparently they've never tried
it).
If you have an Octane, I would say try it. If not, these guys have some O2s:

We are running xwinnmr, version 2.6 I think, on an O2 with R12k/270, Irix
6.5.X, no problems. This is with an ARX.
Had to get a hub that does the 10base2 (ARX) to 10baseT conversion; also a
card for the second ethernet port; don't need that if you don't want to
network the O2. We also had to pay Bruker for the privilege of moving the
xwinnmr license from the Indy to the O2, an example of nickle-and-diming
that did not endear them to me.
