Morning All,

It may be useful to know that a solution to this problem was to replace
the Mercury(original) CPU card.

  I summarize the problem:

On setting up an experiment, by any user, any experiment when an su is
issued from within VNMR
the error "Invalid Acquisition Instruction" results.

The error is not dependent on pulse sequence nor did a fresh installation of
VNMR6.1C have any effect.
ping gemcon is OK
status shows idle
rebooting sun, console and setacq did not have any effect
monitoring the communication between the console with tip shows

& STATUS=98-LKDISP CT = 0 NT = 16 BSCT = 16 SSCT = 0

Oh, and in case anyone else doesn't already know the Mercury does not
require bootpd to be running on the the Sun

Best regards and thanks to all who took time to help.

Carl
