I met George Furst when I was sent by Magnex Scientific to his Penn facility to reset the cryoshims on the famous tilted 750 (700?) magnet there. That must have been in 2002. He was a fun guy to work around, and very helpful to this Field Engineer for the two weeks I was in Philly. Later, George was always a touchstone of experience when I needed advice. I looked forward to seeing him at each ENC to ask how much time he got to spend on the beach the previous Summer. He was a big fan of the Jersey Shore.
RIP, George. Thanks for your support through the years. You will be remembered, my friend.

Subject: Fwd: Sad news about George Furst
Hello Jerry,
I am saddened to forward you the news about the passing of George Furst. The funeral will be this coming Saturday. My colleague Robert Espina knows George very well. Robert checked with his network of NMR scientists our understanding is that George suffered a heart attack during work at U Penn Monday. His family was notified and we believe they were at the hospital with him before he passed.
Sincerely,

Dear Doug and Robert,
I don’t know if you have heard about this already, but I wanted to let you know that George passed away unexpectedly yesterday. He was working very hard through the holidays to get the new 800 MHz set up, and he was very excited about setting up and trying out the table top NMR with me this semester. I will let you know when I obtain further information from the department concerning funeral arrangements.
Kindest Regards, Jisun
