Sad news, George Furst passed away yesterday (Jan 08, 2018).
George was the long-time Director of the NMR Facility in the Chemistry Department at the University of Pennsylvania. He was born in 1946 and raised in Jersey City, NJ. After attending St. Peter's college (Bachelors), University of Notre Dame (MS) where he met his future wife, and Fordham University (Ph.D.) George started his post-Graduate career with a brief stint Hunter College before moving to the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, George mentored numerous generations Chemistry Graduate students and influenced a few to pursue full time careers in NMR. George was a Co-Chair of the 2008 SMASH NMR conference and was also a member of the SMASH Organizing committee. George is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Kristen, and grandson Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 5300 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Ignatius Church, 999 Reading Avenue, Yardley, PA. Entombment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 8:30am to 10am Saturday at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue (River Road), Yardley.
