A creative solution to your problem...
On mine, I have some fluorocarbon carp fishing line attached between the red arm
and the upper part of the sample changer (on the casing surrounding where the
shuttle picks up the sample) - pictures attached.
With the right tension, this will allow the arm to be triggered when it really
needs to be (i.e. long tubes), but for gentle brushes allows the arm to reset
itself before triggering an error state. The line will slacken a bit over time
and need replacing/retightening, but for me it does the trick (at least on a
400 Ascend).
It can also give you a couple more mm of wiggle room for longer tubes passing
underneath as the line will prevent the arm from drooping towards the middle
of the carousel (just be sure not to jack the arm up too much - a gentle tension
is all that's needed).
I'd also recommend testing all permutations of SampleCase motion manually,
just to make sure that any particular instance of this 'fix' doesn't cause
any unforeseen issues. Not sure how well this works on all magnet designs
and corresponding transport tube lengths.
I'd say that the more 'premium' products out there will last longer before
slackening so long as a suitable knot is tied (and land you bigger fish if
you're so inclined...).
