floppy drives on Gemini 2000

We have just upgraded our Gemini 300 to a Gemini 2000 using a Sun Sparc 4
running Solaris 2.4. We would like to have the students (approximately 100)
save their data to floppy disks. The problem that we are having is that
every time that a new disk is put into the computer the software assigns a
unique volume name and keeps a log of the old names. This creates a problem
of not knowing exactly what name your disk has without specifically asking
the software.

I have tried to turn off this volume update feature of the software using
the -n in the vold command line. This has not helped and the problem still
exists.

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Les
