Bruker Monitor Replacements

Some additional info on old Bruker monitor replacements:

The original monitor, an NEC model JC-1402DHE, can be replaced using an NEC
Multisync II, model JC-1402HMA, provided that you construct a simple adapter
for the connectors. I've been told that an ATT 329D monitor is the same as an
NEC Multisync II; if true, this would also be a substitute. One perhaps obvious
caution: the Bruker monitor uses 208V and the Multisync uses 110V. Our monitors
have gone dim over the years, and in one case, also out of convergence. I also
investigated replacing the CRT (# 370HYB22). There are two options here: one
can purchase a new tube or have it rebuilt. Rebuilding involves installing a
new gun, baking, and repumping. The phosphors are not changed, but are
supposed to be still good. The one problem not repaired is bad screen burns.
An ad in
Nuts and Volts magazine led me to a company that does this for $299.00 :

T.M.C.

215-223-0388

A new tube can be obtained from Video Display Corp. for $395.00:

Video Display Corp.
1868 Tucker Ind. Dr.
Tucker, GA 30084

Some prices from other sources including NEC topped $600.00. I suspect that
one could generate rasters and patterns from the Bruker software for purity and
convergence adjustments...the procedure for these adjustments is given in the
Bruker GDP manual.

Switch settings for the NEC Multisync II are:

Manual Switch ON
Mode Color
Color Mode 8
H size ON
Text OFF
Text Color Doesn't Matter

As previously mentioned, you need a male DB-9 connector and an 8-pin female
rectangular monitor receptacle, available from:

Bi-Tronics, Inc.
76 Main St.
P.O. Box 125
Tuckahoe, NY 10707
800-666-0996

Part # PS-08VC

Wiring of the connector adapter:

8-pin connector DB-9 connector

1 open -
2 3
3 4
4 5
5 open -
6 1
7 8
8 open -

Bruker's male video connector has some resistors wired across some of the pins
inside the connector which results in the following resistance measurements if
you check continuity:

DB-9 pin

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

A 150 250 250 250 0

B 100 0 200 200 250
Video pin
C 100 200 0 200 250

D 100 200 200 0 250

E 0 100 100 100 150

We also purchased the service manual from NEC, part # 599910263.

I hope this helps. The monitors I've purchased used have been quite good...
certainly better than the old ones for brightness, and have lasted for at least
2-3 years in the case of the first one.
