We are considering an upgrade of the old Motorola-based CPU on the Varian
Gemini 200 MHz H/C system in our walk-in lab to enable it to use VNMRX on a
Sparc 5. The upgrade will (*in principle*) turn our older Gemini into a
Gemini 2000. Have any of you pursued similar upgrades? If so, I would
appreciate it if you could share your experiences with us - the good, the
bad and the ugly! I didn't manage to get enough feedback during ENC. Did
the upgrade meet your expectations? What are the key differences between
an upgraded Gemini and a totally new Gemini 2000? Did you have any
problems that could have been avoided? There were some postings about
GLIDE automation a while back - has Varian resolved these issues to your
satisfaction?
If you send your responses to me, I will post a summary to the AMMRL and
Varnet lists within the next week or so. If you wish to remain anonymous
to the group, I will conceal your identity in the summary at your request.
I'll also respect any requests to exclude a response from the summary. But
unless you include a request, I will assume that any responses I receive
over the next few days on this topic are OK to summarize to these groups
(with the author's name included).
Thanks!
