Department of Chemistry
Florida State University
Associate in Research (non-tenure earning faculty position) in NMR
spectroscopy and/or molecular modeling. This position involves working
with a team of scientists (organic chemists, structural biologists, and
pharmacologists) in designing new drugs and discovering, understanding, and
predicting their chemistry and interaction with biological systems. The
primary focus of the team at this time is taxol-based anticancer agents.
Responsibilities of the position include supervision and maintenance of a
state-of-the-art laboratory for the design and analysis of new drug
candidates and working closely with and training other team members in the
application of current NMR and/or molecular modeling techniques. The
position will include primary responsibility for a new Varian Inova Plus
400 MHz NMR spectrometer and several Sun Microsystems and Silicon Graphics
computers (including a new SGI Power Challenge computer). Other NMR
spectrometer systems operating at 300, 500, 600, and 720 MHz are available
for use by the team in the Department of Chemistry and the National High
Magnetic Field Laboratory.
A Ph. D. degree in an appropriate discipline is required, along with
training in current NMR and/or computational modeling techniques.
Demonstrated ability to solve challenging problems in a team environment is
essential.
A competitive salary commensurate with experience and ability is available.
