Oh Noooooo, NOT Another Survey!!

Dear (N)MR Managers:

I _won't_ bother "everyone" with another survey, and this may have already been
covered in past surveys, but here goes!:

My Dept. is _finally_ considering adding an actual "staff" member to assist
me in running my facility, but they asked me for a list of "comparable"
institutions, and what staff support they have.

With that said, I would like to ask all of you who feel "moved" to help me
out to read the following description of _my_ facility, and then decide
if you would be a "comparable" facility...in terms of #s of users,
#s of instruments, University size, or whatever.

----------------- My Facility -------------------------
UN-L is the "flagship" land-grant institution in Nebraska, and my facility
is the only hi-res NMR available on campus.

Responsible for 5 Supercon NMRs for research (G.E. Omega 300 & 500, Varian
VXR-200, Nicolet/Tecmag-360WB, Chemagnetics M-100S solids), 1 EPR, 1 FTIR,
1 GC/MS, 5 Sun-Sparcstations (system Admin./network Admin.), several PC/Mac
"workstations". Also responsible for maintenance support of Varian Gemini-2000
(200 MHz) instrument for Undergraduate use (it's finally official).

I supervise anywhere from 100 to 150 hands-on users, as well as perform service
spectroscopy for people in other departments, institutions, and local industry.

As a faculty person I also teach a 3-credit-hour, 900 level course on basic
NMR spectroscopy every other year, and am also expected to write (or assist in
writing) proposals for instrumentation to keep us current with the technology.

I currently have one, 12-15 hour/week graduate assistant to assist me in the
operation of the above.
--------------------------------------------------------

OK...there you have it. If you read the above, and would be comparable in
instruments, users, or duties, could you please reply with a _brief_
description (in whatever format you choose) of your facility, and how many
(and what type) of staff you have to do the job.

If it's too much of a bother, feel free to hit <Delete>...I certainly
understand 8-). Not to be _TOTALLY_ self serving, I will save any and all
responses in a separate file, and will forward the results to whoever could
use the information.

Thanks in advance!
