I have been working double-overtime trying to do system-administration
stuff for our new Gemini-2000, which run VNMR-5 under Solaris. The problem
is that I know SunOS thoroughly, but Solaris ain't the same...duh! Since
I don't have any System Administration manuals, I've been doing lots of
hacking, but I'm stuck on something...anybody who knows Solaris, please
help!!
I finally have the system on the network, and I want to do a "Level 0 dump"
of the filesystems on a remote tape. SunOS 4.x.x has the "dump" and
"rdump" command, but Solaris doesn't seem to share this feature. I use
"rdump" to backup all of my other Sun systems onto my 2Gbyte DAT tape drive,
but I cannot find a similar command under Solaris 2.3!!!??? I can't believe
that Varian would sell an instrument with a computer running Solaris, and
NOT include SystemAdministration (or any other O.S.) manuals...sheesh!
If anybody can help me out with this one, I'd REALLY appreciate it. I have
ordered the "Solaris System Administrator's Guide" from SunSoft, but it
isn't here yet. This may sound silly, but with a hoard of undergrads chomping
at the bit to use the instrument, I'd sleep better if I have the software
backed up somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help with this little problem.
