Many thanks for the several replies to my question on the Varian spinner problem.
The least that can be done is to summerise the results in case they come in
useful;
1. Many of you suggested that the probe and bore tube be cleaned, and the
alignment checked. This had been done at a recent service.
2. Many also emphasised the importance of correct air pressure and flows, not
to mention air quality. Although these had also been checked, adjusting
the bearing air valve (Liquids Probes Manual, p 7) made life a lot easier.
It was also suggested that the spinner solenoid valve might be defective,
it wasn't, but it's worth checking.
3. Re-boot the acquisition console (thanks Bill!). This involves re-
initialising the spinner hardware. What I THINK was happening is that, in
part due to the mal-ajdusted air flow refered to above, the spinner controls
had got too far from a sensible position to find their way back. Reseting
at least gives them a chance.
