Karen Ann Smith asked about references regarding an explanation for
how gradients are used for coherence pathway selection. The new edition of
William R. Croasmun and Robert M. K. Carlson's Two-Dimensional NMR
Spectroscopy: Applications for Chemists and Biochemists (VCH Publishers,
Inc., 1994) does have a section on coherence pathway selection using field
gradients--in William E. Hull's excellent chapter "Experimental Aspects of
Two-Dimensional NMR".
The Croasmun and Carlson book is the first I have seen to begin to
explain the use of gradients. I liked the first edition of the
book--especially Hull's chapter, but I am so much more impressed by this
expanded and updated new second edition. I highly recommend it!
Sincerely,
Brad Bacon
