Faraday cage? No?

I just got a new PC for my office and my desk sits on the intersection of
the 5 gauss lines for both my 7.05T and 11.75T magnets (no wonder I so
often seem disoriented). My last system, with an IBM 8513 display, learned
to live with this but my new monitor is all distorted by the fields.

Has anyone coped with this problem? My intuition about faraday cages is that
they cope with changes in magnetic flux but not permanent fields, however, I
have not got out my physics books yet. One person said faraday cage would not
help and that I need to have a big steel enclosure built to sit on my desk
and warp the field away from my computer. Any suggestions will be appreciated
as I do not think anyone here wants to hear from someone wanting a better
office.
