Ms. Kathleen Ream, Head
Department of Government Relations and Science Policy
American Chemical Society
1155 Sixteenth St NW Suite 330

Dear Ms. Ream:
I am a member of two professional organizations that are very
concerned about the recent decline in federal funding for scientific
instrumentation. These organizations are Analytical Laboratory
Managers Association (221 members) and Association of Managers in
Magnetic Resonance Laboratories (over 130 members) and I seem to
be the de facto liaison between them for government affairs.
I am also a member of the American Chemical Society and have been
pleased to see that instrumentation funding appears prominently in its
1993-94 Federal Policy Agenda. I noted that Helen Free made a
particular point of this when she appeared on Capitol Hill.
As instrumentation specialists with responsibility for the well being of
our facilities, ALMA and AMMRL members would like to supplement
ACS's efforts to secure greater future funding for scientific
instrumentation and facilities. I would be grateful for any instruction in
how I might help these organizations to participate in this endeavor.
Sincerely yours,
etc.
