RE: problems with XWINNMR2.6 and 3.0?

We use an INDY as our host machine and about a year ago we upgraded to XWinNMR
2.6 and IRIX 6.5. The speed issue was that the INDY had to have secondary cache
in order for IRIX 6.5 to run at a reasonable speed.

Wei

We have two spectrometers running XWinNMR 2.6 on SGI-O2's (both R5000
200MHz
with 128Mb & IRIX6.5). I've not experienced either of the phase or
expansion
problems you describe and the browse or search window pops up within a
couple of seconds.

On one of the instruments we did have an Indy (R4600 133MHz 160Mb &
IRIX5.3)
which ran XWinNMR 2.1 without problem but I recall being advised by
Bruker
UK that I shouldn't consider going to XWinNMR 2.6 & IRIX6.5 on the Indy
as
the performance would not be acceptable. I think your problems are
computer
speed issues. Given that our Indy actually had more memory than the
system
replacing it I doubt if throwing more memory in would make any
difference on
the Indy, 128Mb on the O2 might be worthwhile - unless someone else has
any
other ideas it looks like a replacement for the Indy is your only way
forward.

If your spectrometer is an Avance, then you might consider a PC - our
'Open-Access' system runs XWinNMR 2.6 and IconNMR 2.1 quite happily (&
robustly) on a Compaq AP200 450MHz Intel Pentium II 192Mb, NT 4.0
Workstation (Service Pack 3). The comparative transform times I've done
show
the PC to be faster than the O2 eg 2D GSCOSY 1024x1024 <6sec PC (7s O2),
2D
HSQC 2048x1024 <7sec PC (13s O2), all timings xfb to screen refresh
completed.

	Dear Bruker Users,

Just wonder if any of you have seen the same problems as we had
with
	XWINNMR2.6 and 3.0.
We have recently installed NMRSuite 2.6 on our SGI-O2
(IRIX6.5,180
MHz, 64
	MB), and NMRSuite3.0 on our SGI-Indy (IRIX6.5, 133 MHz, 128 MB).
Before
the upgrade, we were running XWINNMR1.3 and have no such
problems.
Problems we had noticed so far are:

	1. On both O2 and Indy, when applying phase correction with PH0
and
PH1
button the phase change with respect to mouse movement is not
smooth
(jumpy). It is worse on the Indy (hard to tolerate!).

	2. On the Indy, when doing spectra expansion mouse cursor
movement
is very
slow after left click and between the two middle clicks (hard to
tolerate
	too!).

	3. The "browse" command takes forever (more than a minute) to
bring
up the
pop-up window. However, "browse 3" command works fine and so is
the
	"search" function.

Could these problems be related to the computer speed/memory or
have
anyone
	got a solution?

	Regards,

	Wei
