Hi David,
After checking the probe centering with centerprobe, I would recommend loading
in the latest shims from the original probe and manually touching up the shims
a bit before starting 3D gradient shimming.
To start the 3D gradient shimming select the “Tools > Standard Calibration
Experiments > Set up 3D Gradient Shimming” pull down from the top of the VnmrJ window.
We’ve had best success using the “Doped 13C sensitivity –
ASTM (1H)” standard for gradient shimming.

Did you check the position of the probe using the command "centerprobe"? You
won't be able to get a good shimming if your probe is not centered well.
