Hi there fellow spinlanders,
Happy Fall! Hope you're all doing well. The good news from Vermont is
that the chair of my department *finally* approved the purchase of a 100
seat MestreNova license. Woot woot! Of course it helped that
MestreLabs ran a great summer promotion and I believe we were also
eligible for some loyalty discounts. But until now I had a workstation
license on one computer in the lab, so for the students that didn't have
a license in their PI's lab, they had to come use this workstation if
they wanted to use MNova to process their NMR data.
But now it comes down to who will administer this site license. Until we
entered the rigamarole of the U having to approve the software/license
and all the bureaucracy in actually paying for it, I thought I would be
administering this out of my own lab. After all there are simple
instructions on how this is done and so far the MNova support has been
great. But our computer guys are telling me that 'Systems
Administration and Architecture' has a server room with multiple
licenses for all sorts of applications, and that this is the most
reliable way of doing it.
So, I am wondering how many of you administer your campus' MNova license
yourselves and who is using a 'server room' for this task. And if you
are using some campus server room, how do you have control over who gets
a seat (we are purchasing a 100 seat license and will have to have some
kind of restrictions on who gets one). And if there's any other advice
you may have to offer, I'd certainly appreciate it. I've been a MNova
user for almost 20 years now (OK, OK...back when it was MestreC), but
haven't really had experience with a site license.
Much appreciated,
Monika
