Hello to everyone. I am having some problems with the printer attached to
the Sun computer.
Let me first give you the computer specs: SunBlade 100, Solaris 8, HP
LaserJet 5P
Now let me tell you what is going on. Last week, our NMR died and the
service tech came out to fix it. I noticed that we had lost the connection
from the various users to the printer - the only 'user' that would print was
root. When I showed him what was going on, he said that we would have to
reload the operating system, which he did. He also reinstalled the NMR
software.
So now, I try and print to the printer and it prints at least a pack of
paper for an NMR and all I see are a line or two on the top of the page of
symbols and numbers. There is no hint of a spectrum. I can send the jobs
to the network printer and get what I am trying to print. However, while
the network printer would be okay, we purchased this printer to go
specifically with the NMR and I would prefer to use it.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer using ./adddevices in
the /vnmr/bin folder. I have tried deleting and adding the printer in the
admintool & , that doesn't work. I have tried going through the whole list
of printers available in the ./adddevies listing, nothing is working. The
most recent patches have been installed, so I am current there.
I have run to the end of what I know to do. I thought about hooking the
printer up to my PC and then trying to get the NMR computer to print to it,
but our IS people say I probably can't do it. When I asked why, I was told
that the printer will be shared on the network, but won't have an IP
address. Can I still print to that kind of printer?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help.
