Title: Sr. Analytical Chemist
Description:
Provide NMR support to R&D, Customer Technical Service, and manufacturing.
Develop NMR methods and solve analytical problems for the corporation.
Train technicians on NMR methods used in QC.
Analyze samples and report results.
Area of Work:
Apply multinuclear NMR characterization to small molecules, polymers, and
solid materials.
Maintain and operate NMR instruments for the NMR group, open access for
chemists, and plant QC use.
Provide NMR training and consultation to chemists, technicians, and
chemical engineers.
Maintain excellence in safety, health and environment practices.
Apply new NMR methods to solving chemical and process problems.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Recent Ph.D. in chemistry, preferably in NMR spectroscopy.
Good understanding of the fundamentals of NMR spectroscopy and
instrumentation.
Good analytical problem solving skills.
Good English language skills.
Good people skills.
Interest in a wide variety of NMR applications and methods, including
liquids, solids, and polymers.
Strong interest in the challenges of industrial analytical chemistry for a
wide variety of products.
Location:
Process Development Center, Baton Rouge, LA (central R&D and Customer
Technical Service site, plus process development and production)

The NMR Lab is a Center of Excellence for the Albemarle Corporation. The
work is varied and challenging.
Green card or ability to sponsor own application is required.
Current instrumentation: 2 Avance III 500s with 5mm BBFO z-grad Smart
Probes; 1 Avance III 500 with 5mm Prodigy BBFO cryoprobe; 1 Avance 400
with H/C/F/P QNP probe; all with sample changers and VT; 2 multinuclear
CPMAS probes.
Current staff: 2 Ph.D; 1 BS; 2 Techs
