Slow Varian Carousel Sample Changer

I just installed the Varian 9 position carousel auto-sampler on our Unity
400 Spectrometer. The manual spec states a sample change cycle time of
around 35 seconds. However the current cycle time of our system is around 65
to 70 seconds. There appears to be a long dead time after the old sample is
retrieved and before the carousel rotates to the new sample position. Does
anyone know how to speed up the cycle time?
