Varian VT Probe Connector

Hi All,

Varian NMRs seem to be quite robust (in our hands) if you have them
do the same thing over and over - see recent thread on lost communication
between data station and console. But it can go all wrong when we have lots
of interactive use, probe changes, etc.

Wrt probes, we have a recurring problem with the VT connector - it
looks like a simple 9-pin serial connector (DB-9). It seems that the
contacts on the female side can get loose with use. Some probes have the
connector on the "wrong" side, and that can put some strain where the cable
enters the plastic housing, and I suppose the solder joints.

Has anyone found a better way of doing this? We're on back order
for our second cable in about a year, and probe changes can take 30 min and
more to get the VT working!

Thanks,
        Mike

PS Reading the feedback from the console communication discussion and
knowing our similar frustrations, I couldn't help but think how we might
lever our collective concerns to focus minds at Varian. M.
