Job: NMR Spectroscopist

Company: Merck Research Laboratories, a world leader in pharmaceutical
            research, has an immediate opening for a highly qualified NMR
            spectroscopist in our Department of Medicinal Chemistry. The
            opportunity is available in our West Point, PA research center.

Position: The successful candidate will join a group that has
responsibility
            for using NMR in a variety of ways to advance the drug discovery

            process. The group uses and maintains a state-of-the-art NMR
            facility for research (three high-field instruments) and for
            routine analyses (fleet of open-access instruments). The
            majority of projects are done in close collaboration with
chemists
            from the Medicinal Chemistry Department. Specific duties of the

            incumbent include structure determinations of unknowns,
            conformational analyses, and open-access user training.
            Collaborations with mass spectrometry and analytical groups are
            routine.

Qualifications: 1) highly motivated individual with the desire to make
               scientific contributions
            2) BS or MS degree, preferably with a strong foundation in
organic
               chemistry
            3) experience in solution NMR of small molecules
            4) excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
            5) the ability to effectively collaborate with a wide variety of

               individuals
            Preference will be given to candidates experienced in organic
            synthesis and/or that have extensive experience in small
molecule
            NMR.
