thank you very much for all, who responded.
The easy solution for the problem is to start the insight
software with the command line option
insightII -axxess
This works very well and the loss of quality is acceptable
for the given purpose.
eXceed was my mistake. Yes you are right, using eXcced 3D
there is no problem, sorry.
A further comment was related to the commercial X server
from Xigraphics. There seems to be no GLX problem, nevertheless
insightII is not able to run using this product. But maybe
this X server is another choice to get XWinNMR running without
the acrobatics with XF86Config (although this works fine).
The helpful comments came from Yu-Feng Tong (Beijing),
