I reveived quite a few replies about networkingin MS-DOS. Suggestions
of things to do or check included:

router address
gateway address
netmask
running nfsconf (didn't run for me)
check in the /nfs directory
config.sys
autoexec.bat
look around for any other network files

I also looked in /pctcp and /odi directories

After checking everything I could, I rebooted and.... telnet doesn't
work (still get packet driver errors) but NFS cross mounting does work.
Since I really only use this system to get AC250 data to the SGI, I
don't care about telnet, and so I call the problem solved.

thanks to all,

kas
