AMMRLers,

Dave's suggestion of a discussion about facility charges at the
AMMRL meeting at ENC presuposes that there will be an AMMRL meeting
at ENC.

1) An earlier request for topic suggestions resulted in only 3
emails to the steering committee. I don't know if this is due to
lack of interest, or simply lack of suggestions.

2) Of greater importance (perhaps) is that AMMRL is not on the ENC
schedule. I noticed this last month, and called the ENC office on
behalf of AMMRL. Judith told me (very paraphrased- I am trying to
convey my understanding of her meaning) that the ENC committee did
not want evening sessions/was concerned about them. So, she did not
schedule us, as she thought the ENC did not want an evening
meeting. (You may remember that last year we ran waaaay long and on
Tues. there was the data format session that also ran long).

3) I emailed the ENC 2000 chair ( Christian Griesinger,
cigr@org.chemie.uni-frankfurt.de) on 18 Nov. I requested that we be
re-instated on the program, and promised that our meeting would be
shorter and more typical of our meetings prior to '98. I requested
Monday 7-8or9, but was flexible on the day/time. I have not yet
received a response from him.

4) I think I can "speak" for steer when I write that we will do what
the membership wants as far as ENC goes. If no one wants a meeting,
we won't organize one. If y'all do want a meeting, we will try to
arrange one. (But we still need topics and speakers/discussion
leaders.) ENC is under no obligation to allow anyone (such as AMMRL)
to "piggyback" on their meeting. However, the beach is public
property. I do not know for sure, but I suspect that we could not
use any areas such as the chapel without the ENC committee's
approval since they have the contract with Asilomar.

on behalf of the AMMRL Steering committee,

Karen Ann Smith
