Dear Members,
The Laboratory of Cardiac Energetics /National Heart Lung Blood Institute
at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md is presently upgrading its
MRI systems. As the result of this, we expect to be decommissioning the
laboratories 4 Tesla 1 meter room temperature bore Oxford, Instruments
MRI superconducting magnet.

We have tentatively decided to surplus the magnet and system instruments and
are open to donating it to any research group who can make use of it.

The system is physically very large 50 tons, 16 feet long, 14 feet in diameter
and with a 5 gauss line that extends out in a 50 foot radius the system does present
some site problems. It also has an cryogen consumption of approximately 3 liters of
liquid helium and 3 liters of liquid nitrogen per hour. The system has been very
stable without any noticeable drift in the set field point.
The magnet was originally designed to go to a possible higher 5T maximum field.

We will be starting to disassemble the system at the end of December.

Regards Scott
