The secret is to periodically clean the turbines. We use alcohol.
Also make sure that the NMR tubes are really clean on the outside.
Also clean the top of the probe periodically, I usually clean it every
time I change the probe. You should discover that more drastic
cleaning measures are not required.

The easiest way is to make sure your operator wash their hands. We
never had problems with dirty keyboards until a postdoc visited us for
3 years. He would eat at the console, and drink a lot of coffee. I
don't think he ever washed his hands and I know he never cleaned up
after himself. He is now gone and we do not have the problem. I
occasionally take a vacuum cleaner to the keyboard to remove any dust,
etc.
