We use 0.7ml CDCl3 in a sealed NMR tube as a standard. Also we have a
standard shim file
with offset, lock power, lock gain and lock phase ( so no body could not
cheat!), The user must shim
on the stardard to 75% or up lock level (it is very easy, Z1, Z2 only,
takes 10 seconds) then he/she can leave
the instrument.

Remember, 85% people use CDCl3 as their solvent!
