Postdoctoral position in biomolecular solid state NMR

The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto

April 16, 2007

A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Molecular
Structure and Function Program at the Hospital for Sick Children
(Toronto, Ontario) to study membrane proteins and model lipid bilayers
using a solid state NMR-based approach. Several projects are available
in the lab, with a focus on the structure, function and protein-lipid
interactions of medically important integral membrane proteins and
aggregative peptides. In each case, solid state NMR is our primary tool
for studying molecular structure and dynamics, with a range of other
biophysical and imaging techniques used to obtain supporting
information. For more project details, please view our lab website (
http://www.sickkids.ca/sharpelab/).

Minimum requirements: (1) Applicants should possess a recent Ph.D. (last
3 years) in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry or a closely related
field. (2) At least 2 years of experience in at least one of the
following areas is required: protein structure determination, membrane
protein biophysics, solution NMR or solid state NMR.

The laboratory is fully equipped for cloning, mutagenesis, protein
expression and purification, with access to peptide synthesis and
computational facilities. Our group has full-time use of a 500 MHz NMR
spectrometer with triple-resonance probes available for MAS and
static/oriented solid state NMR experiments. Local access to a wide
range of other biophysical instrumentation is available.

The Hospital for Sick Children is a world-renowned academic health
sciences centre dedicated to the care and prevention of pediatric
diseases. The Research Institute at SickKids is the largest
hospital-based Institute of its kind in Canada, employing over 1400
staff ranging from research trainees to principal investigators.
Affiliated with the University of Toronto, our mission is to further
basic and clinical research and to train the next generation of
scientists.

Interested candidates should send a CV to:
