The point in the Bruker recommended PC is the Video Card I'm afraid.
You can check up the installation guide of Xwinnmr for Windows2000 or Linux,
Xwinnmr need a 8-bit pseudo color X server. That's why they recommends HP
VL800 to us. The matrox video card is capable of dual monitors display. I
don't think other things will matter.
We are planning to move to PC. Before actual upgrading, the local Bruker
engineer was kind enough to test Xwinnmr3.0 ( we currently using 1.3) for us in
order to determine which boards require upgrading. At that time we used a DIY
pc with Windows2000 and actually had no problem in installation and carrying
out the basic 1D experiments. Yet being afraid of possible trouble arising
from the PC side, we bought a PC that Bruker recommends at last. It's after
the purchase of the PC did I find the requirement of installation of Xwinnmr.
I'm afraid not all Bruker engineers know the tricky point.
Hope this helps, yet I cannot guarentee anything.
Cheers,
Tong
