The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre
Dame is inviting applications
for the position of Operations Director of Notre Dame’s Magnetic Resonance
Research Center.
The Magnetic Resonance Research Center is a major research core at the
University of Notre
Dame. The Center supports a broad spectrum of research groups involving the
College of
Science, the College of Engineering, and outside institutions. The Center
has nine
spectrometers, with field strengths ranging from 7.04 T (300 MHz) up to
18.80 T (800 MHz).
These include a solid-state MAS system (7.04 T), and two high-field systems
(16.45 T and
18.80 T) with cryoprobes for measuring biological macromolecules or
extremely dilute samples.
We seek experts in NMR spectroscopy interested in supporting and promoting
the broad NMR
research capabilities offered by the Center. The position begins June 1st,
2018.
*Responsibilities*
The Operations Director ensures the daily operation of the Center, and is
the primary consultant
in the theory, practice, and interpretation of NMR experiments. The
Operations Director will
supervise the NMR Center’s Engineer and will work with the Academic
Director to guide the
growth of the Center. Other responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with groups engaged in cutting edge research in areas
including chemical biology, drug discovery, and molecular biophysics
- Ensuring regular maintenance, repairs, and updates of all spectrometer
systems
- Training Notre Dame researchers and students in the proper use and
capabilities of the NMR spectrometers and techniques
- Financial oversight for the Center.
- Participation in the preparation of instrumentation proposals as
needed for the Center
*Qualifications*
Applicants must have a PhD in an NMR-related field with practical
experience in state-of-the-art
NMR methods on high-field instruments. Previous experience managing a
high-field NMR
center/facility, and extensive computer experience are both mandatory.
*Application deadline*: March 15th, 2018
*Start date*: June 1st, 2018
Candidates must provide a curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing
relevant experience and
