Ice in helium fill-in port

Hey all -

We are using a Bruker NMR system and recently had some trouble with a
helium fill. This was the second helium fill we had done in the lab
(all others were done by an outside service). When we went to drop the
helium line into the fill-in port, we discovered there was a blockage
of ice in the port. We were able to use a thumper rod to bang out a
small hole in the ice and use warm dry He gas to melt it. After doing
so we were able to complete our Helium fill.

I am curious as to what preventative measures people take to keep ice
out of their Helium fill ports. I thought we were doing everything we
could to keep moisture out, but apparently we aren't. Also, is there
anyone else who has experienced this ice block issue and, if so, what
methods did you use to resolve it?

Thank you,
Scott Woltman
