NMR Specialist
UOP LLC, located in northwest suburban Chicago, is an international leader
in technology, products and services for the petroleum processing and
separation industries. Our Research Center, which supports fundamental and
market-focused Research, has an immediate need for a Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance (NMR) specialist to work with chemists and engineers throughout
the company on structural and analytical characterization issues relating to
zeolites, catalysts, adsorbents, ion exchangers and organic feeds and
products.
Job Description Summary:
This position offers the opportunity to work in the area of NMR
characterization of catalysts, adsorbents and feeds/product analysis. NMR is
used to characterize structure using tools such as CP-MAS, MQ-NMR, and high
resolution 13C, 15N, 27Al, and 29Si probes.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Providing advice to researchers for characterization of new and existing
nuclei in inorganic and organic materials.
- Improving existing or development of new NMR methods for solid and liquid
materials
- Evaluate, interpret, and present data to customers.
- Design and maintain hardware and software tools to gather and evaluate
data.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent in science field (Chemistry, Material Science, Physics
preferred).
- Computer proficiency and experience with spreadsheet, graphics, word and
curve fitting software.
- Knowledge of computers and laboratory equipment with the ability to
troubleshoot and modify is a must.
- Demonstrated expertise in solids and liquids NMR techniques, including
in-depth understanding of NMR theory and technology, particularly with
respect to pulse sequence development and NMR instrumentation.
- Knowledge of sample preparation techniques
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, strong
customer focus, and the ability to work closely with other group members is
also necessary.
- Three to seven years experience desired.
