I thought you might be interested in the informative blurb our
campus cryogen distribution people sent out this morning. It
prompted a brief cascade of helium requests that has since
depleted our allocation for the rest of the month.
"
I have just been informed that we only have 180 liters of
liquid helium
left for the month of June.
The outside source that we were using to get the extra 250
liter dewars
has also run out and will be unable to supply us with anything
for 2 to
3 weeks. All resources are being used to try to get more helium
but it
does not look good at this time. The shortage is now expected
to last
another year and a half to 2 years.
