Responsibilities
Be a role model for safety awareness. Relentlessly engage coworkers and actively
participate in division and group safety programs.
* Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing using NMR in support of
research and development, applications development and technical services, and manufacturing.
* Design and execute NMR studies of materials; evaluate and interpret data;
identify results with potential issues requiring further investigation.
* Consult with scientists and engineers to conduct analyses of research projects,
interpret test results, or develop appropriate nonstandard tests.
* Collaborate with diverse teams and independently manage work on multiple
projects with different priorities and timelines with minimal supervision.
* Demonstrate good project management skills by establishing project expectations,
milestones, and driving execution.
* Maintain open access facility and provide training and guidance to other scientists.
* Proactively assess instrument performance and reliability, generate improvement ideas,
and lead improvement efforts.
* Complete Technical Reports to document and complete projects.
* Write, review, and approve test methods and job aids for NMR instrumentation and techniques.
* Mentor and train other chemists and technicians as needed.
Qualifications
Required Degree: PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, or Physical Science from
an accredited college or university preferred, BS or MS with 5+ years applicable experience.
* Experience in structure elucidation using solution NMR spectroscopy
* Experience in implementation of new experimental designs and exploring
new NMR technologies and experimental techniques
* Good practical knowledge of structural organic chemistry
* Experienced with NMR acquisition and data analysis software.
* Proficiency in troubleshooting technical instrument problems
* A strong team player with a winning attitude willing to work across organizational
lines to drive improvement
* Innovative and creative problem solver with strong scientific convictions and
willingness to take risks.
* Capable of managing short-term and long-term measurement needs while meeting timelines.
* Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
* Knowledge in additional orthogonal analytical techniques such as LC-MS, IR
and UV-VIS spectroscopy is a plus
