I would like to thank all people who read and responded to my posting, especially those who shared their experience with me: David VanderVelde, Jerry Hirschinger, Phil Dennison, Martha Morton, Hsin Wang, Neil E. Jacobsen, Rajan Paranji.
A filter is necessary if the campus chill water is used to cool the helium compressor. In my situation, I will try to replace the bowl with a clear one so that I can see the condition of the filter everyday and replace it when it becomes dirty.

Subject: AMMRL: Chill water filter for cryoprobe compressor
Hello:
We use a 5 micron filter for our chill water to cool the CryoProbe compressor. Since only a basket is installed in the chill water main supply line to remove large particles, most of the fine particles are collected at our filter.
Would you please tell me whether you use a filter or not for your chill water? If you also use a chill water filter for your cryoprobe compressor, what is the size of your filter?
Thanks
Weixing Zhang
