Probe Lineshape Problem

Dear AMMRL,

I just hade a probe repaired and it seems that the lineshape/resolution
is useable but not quite up to snuff. The repairer had used the wrong
glue to mount the coil on the glass insert after which the L/R was
horrible. He later took the probe back used a different glue and here
I am.

Maybe I would like to try my hand at probe repair and maybe not.

The probe has a silver pickup coil glued to glass or silica insert. I
guess that I need to desolder the leads and remove the insert/coil.
Somehow I need to remove the old glue and coil. Would soaking the
assemby or sonnicating in some solvent work?
Next, I'll have to re-glue. What glue should I use? The glue has to
have low magnetic suseptibility and hold well even at 120C.

Then I'll need to resolder, one lead goes to a small ceramic cap. Do I
need a special solder,or flux? Can I use a soldering iron or do I need
to use a hot air system with flux paste?

I've never done this. I'd appreciate some advice/instructions from
someone that has.

Is it possible to buy a new insert from Wilmad and fashion a new coil?

Gary J.
