Hello fellow NMRists,
When I wrote before about the USB switch for printers, I received a few
replies-- why not network the printers? To save others writing this
obvious solution:
Oh right-- I should have mentioned that we cannot network our computers.
The only way to keep IT hands off (and allow us to have admin rights) is
to disable the extra network card and make the computers non-networked.
A few years ago, a worm got into the company system via a vendor-supplied
Win2000 computer that the lab had connected to the network simply to share
files. Ooops.
Now we use a flash drive to remove data.
It's funny-- it is so easy to become accustomed to limitations in your own
world and forget what it's like in Normal Land.
Cheers & Happy New Year!
Kelly
