Hello.
I wanted to send an individual thank you to everyone who responded but
the number coming in was quite substantial. So let me thank each and
every one of you who responded to my questions (over 100 in total). I
read every message and made notes and am in the process of pulling
together various pieces of information.
For those who requested a summary, let me try and summarize. If anyone
wants to read all of the responses, please let me know and I will
compile them and send them to you individually.
* I believe almost everyone who responded said if your magnet is
working well, hasn't given you any problems, then replacing the console
is the best way to go monetarily (unless the cost of upgrading/replacing
your console is almost the cost of a new system).
* Many pointed out having to replace shim stacks along with the
computer would be necessary.
* Others recommended quenching the magnet during the process and
replacing the seals. While others said if it isn't broken, don't mess
with it.
Again, thank you to everyone who responded, your responses have proven
to be invaluable to me.

Subject: AMMRL: Upgrading NMR - Full Replacement or console replacement?
Good morning. I am beginning the process of pulling together the costs
of replacing our NMR. One of the finance people asked me if it is
possible to replace a console only or would we need to replace the whole
system from the PC to the magnet. My question to you all, have any of
you upgraded to a new console on an older magnet? If so, how did that
work out? Or do you recommend purchasing a whole new system?
