Dear Spinlanders
We have a Varian DD2 with a cold probe, and the relay inside the Cryocon
34 Temperature controller is failing and stuck in the 0.5W mode even
though the software shows that it has switched over to 5W heating.
Occasionally we can get it to regulate by power cycling the cryocon for
several minutes, but increasingly this fails to work. Consequently we
have had to adjust He gas supply/return to limit the cooling power so
that the 0.5W heater can regulate the probe at 20K, and avoid freezing
the diodes in the probe preamps.
Has anyone had any experience in repairing/replacing this heater relay.
Replacement Cryocon 34s seem impossible to find. Varian/Agilent does not
have these older units. I am told newer systems used the cryocon 24
which has a white faceplate instead of the grey one.
Or does someone have an old one that they are willing to part with.
