As some of you probably already know, I will be retiring on April 30, 2017. The university is seeking a replacement, as described below:

We are seeking a full-time Facility Manager for a multiuser Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Centre located in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba. The Centre is equipped with four high-field NMR spectrometers used for a wide variety of research and teaching applications, including solid-state materials chemistry, structure and dynamics of biomolecules, and the structural elucidation of small molecules.
Principal duties will include: operation, maintenance and repair of the NMR spectrometers and associated hardware and software; cultivating a safe, effective and productive laboratory environment; interfacing with a wide variety of users; and managing the billing and financial health of the Centre. The position involves active technical and scientific engagement with internal and external users, daily interaction with undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and staff in teaching and training capacities. The Manager also supervises an NMR technician who assists with routine spectrometer operation and maintenance.
Expertise in solid-state NMR, advanced multidimensional pulse-programming, hardware development and network management are highly desired. Familiarity with both Bruker and Varian/Agilent NMR systems is an asset. Collaborative research and teaching will be encouraged. A Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred; however a Ph.D. in Physics or M.Sc. in Chemistry/Physics with at least five years of experience managing an NMR laboratory will be considered.
